Stern Pissarro Gallery has a unique position in the art world as the only gallery to specialise in Camille Pissarro and four generations of his descendants.
The gallery was established in 1963 as Stern Art Dealers by Meir Stern, and dealt purely in 19th Century paintings. In 1984 his son David took over the running of the gallery, and in 1988, following his marriage to Lélia Pissarro, great grand-daughter of Camille Pissarro, a separate department was set up dedicated to four generations of the Pissarro family. Covering 150 years of paintings, watercolours, drawings, pastels and numerous print techniques by this extraordinary family, prices start in the low hundreds rising to many thousands. The permanent exhibit includes work by ten members of the family.
The gallery still deals in 19th Century paintings with the emphasis on Victorian paintings from the second half of the century. There is also a selection of French, Dutch and Italian works, and most works are priced between £500 and £5,000.
